Name of Artist: Brian Ingram
Artist’s Life: ? - Now
Personal Background:
Brian Ingram is a portrait photographer raised and currently living in Athens, Georgia. Before becoming a photographer, Ingram was a young trial attorney. In 2013, he entered one of his photographs into an international photography competition and took home first place. This event had a major influence on Ingram to pursue his passion in being a photographer. Within 4 years, Ingram had taken thousands of portraits. These photos have been featured in many magazines such as Vogue Italia, Fstoppers, and The Huffington Post.
Style:
Ingram bases his photography around people. His passion is to take portrait photographs. Ingram includes many details in the facial features of his model’s. Many of his photographs, feature models with freckles. This is a characteristic that shows detail embodied on a person’s face. This attention to detail shows that Ingram strives to show a person’s true beauty through his photographs.
Philosophy:
There is a lot of emotion behind Brian’s photos. In the photos that I chose, there is a very deep story. These are photos of his niece, Abigail. She unfortunately suffered from anorexia through her teenage years. Brian captures her journey through his photos. Ingram says, “I try to bring my subjects out of their comfort zones to show their true beauty.” He strives to keep his models unposed. Through all of Brian’s photos, he tells stories about his subjects whether they are a young girl suffering from self-starvation, or and old man who has had a troubled past.
Influences:
I really love Brian Ingram’s work. I admire how he obtains a story about each person he photographs. He has inspired me to really focus on a person’s facial features when I am taking my photos. He has showed me that with the right lighting and poses, you can use unnatural light to take good photographs. I aspire to take photos as good as Brian Ingram’s one day.

Compare and Contrast:
The model in my photos is my friend Kallie. I chose to take my photographs of her because she has a great deal of freckles and has a great complexion. To recreate “Abigail 2012”, I had Kallie in a tank top, and took a blanket that she held in front of herself. I also had her tie her hair up in a messy pony tail. The only big difference in the photos, is the color of the background. In order to replicate “Abigail 2013”, I used a fan to blow her hair behind her, this created the same effect as in Ingram’s photo. I also made sure I took the photo up close and cropped it to only get her neck and head. In “Abigail on Behance”, I noticed that Ingram really tried to bring out the color of his model’s eyes and hair. That is the same thing that I did. I also used a filter on this photo to create a vintage look like Brian’s photo. I really enjoyed replicating my favorites of Brian Ingram’s photos.
Personal Artist Statement:
This is Kallie. She has brown eyes, golden brown hair, and lots of freckles. She is very pretty but in her own way. These photos show her true beauty by emphasising her freckles and eyes. In these photographs, I used the rule of thirds and kept my object in the center of the image. I really tried to pay attention to the details of her hair and freckles. Taking these photos showed me all of the detail you can show about a person in an image.
